About

I am a fourth-year doctoral candidate in the School of Public Health, Indiana University-Bloomington. I am also  an NIH T32 Fellow in Interdisciplinary Training in Biobehavioral Oncology, Indiana University-Indianapolis. My research focuses on improving health-related quality of life for cancer survivors using music interventions. My dissertation is examining the effects of singing on heart rate variability to improve stress response and decrease symptoms of depression and anxiety with breast cancer survivors.

Prior to starting my PhD, I worked in the field of music and music therapy in Cincinnati for over 20 years, most recently as the founder and Executive Director of Melodic Connections, a music therapy-based non-profit.

I am currently also on teaching faculty with the Osher Center for Integrative Health at the University of Cincinnati teaching a course I developed to undergraduate and graduate students on the scientific benefits of “Music and Health.”

💡
In honor of World Voice Day, I had the privilege of sharing Project Resonance—a collaboration amplifying the voices of Black and African American breast cancer survivors through music and story—at Music Hall in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a representative of the Osher Center for Integrative Health at the University of Cincinnati 💬🎵
